Download BleachBit
BleachBit is an application that frees disk space and guards your privacy. It cleans the cache, clears internet history, deletes cookies and logs, shreds temporary files and gets rid of junk that you don't know is there. Created for both Linux and Windows, it wipes 90 applications clean including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Adobe Flash and more. It not only gets rid of files, it shreds them to prevent recovery and wipes the disk to get rid of traces of files deleted by other applications.

BleachBit is simple to operate. Just check the boxes you want it to clean like download history, form history, backup files, temporary files, etc. Then click preview to see how much space you will regain and double check your choices. If you're satisfied with your choices just click "delete" and BleachBit cleans up your disk. You can also "vacuum" Firefox to clean the database fragmentation to improve your speed without removing any data.

While making your choices of what to delete and shred you may find a box or two that you don't quite understand. Just click the title and a brief explanation will pop up.

You will have a choice of two icons when you start, one that runs BleachBit as the current user and limits the cleanup to that user's home folder. The other starts it up with root permissions. BleachBit will warn you when you select options that might lead to data loss. The options window has three tabs; the first allows you to choose whether files are overwritten so they can't be recovered. The second lets you choose the folder where files will be created when you overwrite free space. The third lets you select which locales you want to keep.

User-friendly BleachBit is translated into 32 languages.
