Although not a WYSIWYG, this thing is quite good.

An amazing program. It's helped me a lot so far in my Web Application's class.

Great for free software! Simply impressive!

Aptana is an amazingly good web development IDE. Would like to see a few more features, but a great program nonetheless.

Aptana is a very good program. Not only it is a free alternative to commercial programs (GoLive?!), but it has also a feeling รก la Eclipse, which is a very good developed Java editor.
The only thing I miss on Aptana is a function to implement HTML/CSS/Javascript manuals in Aptana('s search funtion). Or am I blind??

I like editing HTML cause it gives you full control to what you are doing. Nice interface, best editor i tryied so far, and it's been quite a few

and it doesn't suck!
support these guys it's a great start...imagine what they could do with budget.

One of the best, fully featured, development tools I have seen. And it's free.

not completely open now.

I admit I didn't give it much of a chance, I may be missing something but no word wrap in the editor. doh! Scrolling back and forth just to read a document? Notepad can word-wrap.

Notepad - 3
Aptana - 1

I admit - I havn't downloaded it yet. but that's not through lack of trying. It gets one star for haveing broken links on it's homepage, and because the installers (downloaded four times, from four different sites) won't run, despite haveing all the support they need. not impressed.

This is an excellent program. It uses a bit of resources but it makes editing web pages a breeze.

Great Editor, Has the feel of eclipse (as it's based on it), and code completion is superior to dreamweaver's, even showing browser compatibility for css elements. Great selection of plug-ins makes it highly customisable.

Looks good, but wait ... no word wrap?!?!? How am I supposed to edit html and simple text files? I guess by endlessly scrolling up and down and left and right. Surprisingly, while Aptana is very advanced, they couldn't fix the simple word-wrap issue. Darn it, even Notepad has word-wrap. This issue is a deal-breaker for me and I assume for many other users.

I'm using it for PHP project management and, of course, develpment.

given by montana on May 28, 2009

it's got a lot of good features - but can be *really* buggy. just trying to install the php plugin completely wiped the install. I've tried several times on several OS's (mac linux and windows) - and still find it annoying and glitchy. way too many updates - plugs for their other apps, etc. if you like lightweight powerful editors then this isn't for you - the interface is really well laid out though.

No templates = not ready

This is an outstanding, multi-purpose text editor, with an amazing level of customization.

If you want some quick and dirty, this probably isn't the best choice, but if you're willing to go in and mold Aptana Studio (I'm using version 2.0), it is a great, clean-looking, robust text editor, and the fact that it's free is simply mind-boggling. I'd easily pay $50-60 for a program like this.
