one problem with gimpshop is the application is actually some sort of shell/UI in which gimp runs.

what i am unable to do is directly associate filetypes with gimpshop, since gimpshop doesn't handle files...gimp does...and associating them with gimp makes gimp try to open by itself and not within gimpshop.

They say it is supposed to look and feel almost the same as Photoshop. I don't think it is all that close. It is still a decent UI, it would just take some getting used to.

Quite good. It has essentially every feature that Photoshop has. Slightly clunky interface though.

doesn't seem to load layer masks from Photoshop-created files correctly

Can't work with pen-pad -- froze cursor.
It is GIMP, and such as gimp is not alternative for professional working.

No cmyk,
no lab,
no multichanel,
no dutone,
no 16-32 bit per channel,
no icm support,
no rip.

Why is Gimpshop listed here, but not GIMP? Gimpshop is quite
buggy and hasn't been updated for several years now. GIMP,
on the other hand, is regularly updated, works across all
three major platforms, and is truly open source.

BTW, the previous commenter, you obviously haven't seen GIMP
recently. Most of the issues you listed have been addressed
in recent releases of GIMP.

Would be (and was) great if it matched the current version of
gimp. But right now 2.6 is so much better than 2.2 that a few
menus out of order is not at all worth it

It seems as there has been no further development sinde may 2006? and this is only 2.2.11 for Linux and Mac...
The windowsversion is 2.2.8 is probably much older???
- Or am I wrong?
