This article is outdated. Liferay has made significant strides since the 4.x days and is preparing to release 6.1 this fall.

Currently, Liferay is at 6.1.1 and it is a fantastic product.
As a Java developer that has worked on both Oracle's ALUI and
Liferay's portal, I can definitely say that Liferay is SO much
better.
