Not extremely feature rich nor easily customizable but...
Very simple and friendly to use, easy to get use to, fullscreen mode (F11), Innovative style of linking.
I've been using this for university notes, works well, has lots of potential.

The simplest desktop wiki I've seen, text file based, which avoids lock-in, and allows editing remotely using vi/emacs etc. Autosave etc, makes it trivial to use, just type on the correct page, everything else is handled. Works well with unison if you have multiple machines (I use a desktop and laptop).

I store heaps of notes and wanted one simple way to keep them all in one. Zim is not the nicest looking but it does the job.
Does get a little slow with bigger note files, but by storing the files in plain text, keeps the data intact.
